Google OS is taking it to Microsoft’s Playground…

Wow… I joked about this day coming, and here it is!

Google announced today about plans to develop it’s own operating system, Google Chrome OS, based on the Linux kernel and boasting promises of speed, simplicity and security. Oh, and it’ll also be open source.

This could have huge implications on Microsoft’s relatively dominant hold on the OS market share. The part I find particularly amusing about this anouncement is that Microsoft’s new search engine, Bing, has shown a lot of promise as a Google contender…. but I wonder if they saw that one coming? In war, this is the equivalent of a flank!

We here at NWL are personally looking forward to the release and are eagerly making some space on our PCs for the release. Their slant towards web over desktop apps could really start the ball rolling and make our jobs that more interesting.

Stay tuned for updates on Google’s OS journey!
